It’s Christmas in July. We’re unwrapping Soundtoys!

What do audio producers really want for Christmas? More toys, obviously. And just in time for Christmas in July, Soundtoys 5.5 drops like Santa down the chimney.

Sound designer Robert Dudzic breaks down why this update isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a game-changer for radio imaging. With new effects, new presets, and improved workflow, this will not disappoint.

Let’s unwrap it with Robert’s review below.

New! Soundtoys 5.5 with SpaceBlender. Built for Radio Imaging

Soundtoys has just released version 5.5, and it’s a powerful update tailored for today’s audio professionals, especially those working in radio imaging.

What’s new in Soundtoys 5.5:

SpaceBlender – A brand-new effect that combines rich reverb with stereo modulation. Now integrated into the Effect Rack, SpaceBlender gives your VO, beds, and transitions a wide, immersive feel—perfect for crafting standout IDs and promos.

67 New Effect Rack Presets – Designed for fast, creative results. These new presets give you instant access to complex textures, stingers, and FX chains built for imaging and sound design. (more…)

Leaner, Meaner, and Ready for Action!

Tired of your imaging sounding like it’s been politely asked to stand in the corner? Want your VO to growl instead of whisper, your FX to punch a hole in the wall, and your transitions to sound like they were forged in a radioactive volcano? Good. You’re in the right place. Robert Dudzic is back with a fresh pick, and this time, he’s bringing the noise. Literally.

NEW: Ohmicide-S Plugin. Aggressive, Surgical, and Built for Radio Imaging

The legendary Ohmicide is back. It’s leaner, meaner, and optimized for modern workflows. Introducing Ohmicide-S, the next-generation distortion and multiband dynamics tool from Ohm Force, reimagined with speed and precision in mind.

Built with radio imaging producers in mind, Ohmicide-S gives you surgical control over each frequency band with ultra-fast workflows and powerful saturation options. Whether you’re beefing up VO, sharpening FX, or designing aggressive sweeps and stingers, this plugin delivers the punch, clarity, and edge your imaging needs to cut through. (more…)

How to be an Audio Wizard. (Hat & Beard Optional.)

When TRYNITY HDFX producer Robert Dudzic gets excited about an audio tool, it’s usually worth paying attention. This week, he’s digging into Steinberg SpectraLayers 12, and if you think it’s just for cleanup, you’re about to miss the real magic.

The new Steinberg SpectraLayers 12 is here, and it’s a serious upgrade for anyone working in sound, especially radio imaging producers. This isn’t just about cleanup or editing. SpectraLayers 12 opens the door to creative sound sculpting with unmatched precision.

I personally use SpectraLayers in my own sound design process, and the new version is a huge step forward. From isolating specific frequency details to removing unwanted noise, it lets me deconstruct and rebuild audio in a way that no other tool can. (more…)

Old School Cool. New School Muscle.

Are you ready for a plugin that acts like it’s 1983 but thinks like it’s 2025. It’s a vintage-style dynamic enhancer modeled after the dbx® 1BX, now tailored for modern radio imaging. If you want your beds to bounce, your VO to stand out, and your sweeps to hit harder than a quad espresso, this one is just your type.  Type X, that is, and Robert is here to tell us more…

TYPE X – Audio Enhancer for Radio Imaging Pros

Bring your imaging elements to life with Type X from Audio Thing, a precision emulation of the legendary dbx® Model 1BX—a vintage dynamic range expander originally built to breathe new energy into compressed audio. Now reimagined for today’s fast-paced production world, Type X delivers that same retro vibe with the power and control modern radio demands.

Designed to add punch, presence, and clarity, Type X dynamically boosts the contrast between soft and loud moments, perfect for making your sweeps, beds, and transitions stand out in a dense mix. (more…)

Compress Without the Stress

Compression is like Spanx for your audio. It holds everything in place, smooths out the lumps, and keeps your mix sounding tight and polished. But squeeze too hard, and your mix is gasping for air, and everything gets very uncomfortable very quickly. Or something like that.

Lucky for us, Robert has found a plugin that tightens things up without cutting off your mix’s circulation.  Over to you RD…

If you’re producing modern, high-impact radio imaging, this week’s featured free plugin is one you’ll want in your toolbox. TDR Kotelnikov from Tokyo Dawn Records is a clean, transparent digital compressor. It’s ideal for controlling dynamics in voiceovers, sweepers, promos, and music beds without adding unwanted coloration.

Unlike analog-modeled plugins, Kotelnikov is proudly digital, designed from the ground up to offer precision and flexibility. It’s especially effective when you need to keep your mixes punchy, clear, and consistent across all playback platforms.

Your New Studio…for the Price of a Plugin

You’ve finally got your studio just right for mixing.  The sound treatments are strategically spaced, external noise is at a minimum, your mix monitors are angled perfectly, and you are now in the zone.  Or, is it all just in your head?  It could be.

Here’s Robert with his latest pick, the inspiring audio plugin from Lewitt, Space Replicator.

Lewitt’s new Space Replicator plugin brings the experience of high-end mixing rooms straight to your headphones,  no treated studio required. Using high-resolution virtual acoustic spaces, it simulates professional environments like Vienna Synchron Stage, the Watergate Club, and even car interiors or smartphones, so you can hear your mix exactly as it will translate in the real world.
